Surfing the umc.org Website
If you haven’t made an effort to visit the site, now may be the time to check it out. There are many links to visit…So many that it may really surprise you. Where does our church stand on abortion, aging, death and dying, death penalty, church and politics, and war…to mention only a few. Check out the above site and see for yourself. You won’t need the Book of Discipline and this is a little more accessible for must of us. Do you remember the flooding this spring? Try visiting the video pages and scroll through the archives to see what our denomination is doing
If you visit rethinkchurch.org, you can find a class on Methodism 101. Even if you know or think you know all about the Methodist Church, you may find out some things you didn’t know. Classes are held throughout the year. If it is too late to register, wait, it probably will be offered again soon . Just go online and check. You can work through the four modules at your own pace, at whatever time of the day you wish to work. And you can talk to other students and the leader through the discussion groups on line.. There is even a test – but if you don’t like the first score, you can take it again and again until you get a perfect score!
Just by visiting umc.org, you can see what other churches are doing in our country and around the world. It is a valuable tool. And if you decide to take a trip and visit a church in a city you have not visited before, just check out find-a-church.org. It will lead you to a site which will request the name of the city and state you want to visit. It will bring up a site showing all the churches in that area. You can then go to an individual church site to see what it has to offer. This is much better, more personalized that a phone book.
