Amazing grace in an amazing place.

A new art exhibit on display in Century Hall.

Nearly two years ago, several church members formed a study group based on the book, “Five Elements to a Fruitful Congregation.” Led by Pastor Margaret, we tackled literally hundreds of ways to bring our church out to the community and bring our community into our church. Over 200 ideas ranged from reading programs for children to summer services in the park, from financial workshops to an informative mission corner. Many of the ideas have been implemented, but there are even more that haven’t.

Using the 60-foot blank wall in Century Hall as a backdrop for an art exhibit was originally proposed by me as a way of opening up our church to the community. In addition, it was intended to brighten up and beautify Century Hall. The idea went through the “New Ministry Implementation” process which resulted in Church Council approving this innovative idea.

Inviting artists, their work and their following into the church is one of many ways to communicate the inclusiveness that our church is seeking. Every two months when a new exhibit goes up, I write an article for the Mountain Mail. After the article appears, 4 or 5 people often come to view the art work and sometimes tour the church to view the organ and our historical sanctuary. The art exhibit is a small step in outreach, but small steps, when joined with others, become big steps.
